BANANAQUITS ON ABACO: CHEERY VANQUISHERS OF GLOOM

I’d been planning a post about marine debris and its dire effects on the natural world. Some images I proposed to use are distressing, and some simply suggest how futile it is to try to prevent mankind chucking harmful and semi-permanent rubbish into the sea. Depressing. A gyre of upset. Add in new military interventions without limitation and suddenly I longed for something more cheerful. Checking through a folder of photos of Bananaquits helped to stave of the gloom, so I picked out a few images of this lovely small bird taken by 9 photographers.

    • Thanks again, Woody. Common, yes, but I think surprisingly difficult to get a really clear shot of. But the archive has plenty of wonderful ones. Incidentally, Delphi reopens shortly. Next there in March – maybe we could have a birding day? And returning winter residents at TC (human) – don’t be shy about the book!

    • Ewww. Sorry. Just remembered to go back to these. Life gets in the way of responding to comments too! Anyway, glad you like the bananaquits. They are delightful to watch (and they can use those curvy beaks – just – to get into the tiny holes in hummingbird feeders. Learned behaviour. RH
