HURRICANE DORIAN, ABACO BAHAMAS: STAY STRONG, STAY SAFE
As Hurricane Dorian sweeps directly and inexorably towards Abaco this weekend, from my safe distance of 4000 miles I wish all the very best to my friends, and to all the people and the precious island they inhabit.

Where do land birds go in a hurricane?
Life is tragic and beautiful, for everyone.
I think the parrots might die.
Love to all in the path of Dorian.

Cindy, like the humans, they hunker down. The parrots return to the National Park where they uniquely live underground in limestone caves. There’s a risk of flooding, and there will be some attrition but there are now enough to withstand some losses. Thanks for your concern.

This is terrifying! Your map is amazing, RH and the lovely parrots looks so comfortable, spreading hope and comfort to every one out there. We keep our fingers crossed and wish for the best for our friends in Florida and Abaco. xx

Thank you for your kind thoughts, Dina! Abaco has been squarely in the sights for days (often there’s a swerve). The parrots are unique to Abaco – a loving pair seemed a positive image…

Oh dear, it still looks like Abaco will be hit first although the direction has turned a little bit. How terrible! Have the inhabitants been evacuated now? 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Dina, evacuation from the most vulnerable areas and remoter cays maybe, but not wholesale. That’s not really possible. Most people / communities have their methods of coping, though this storm is the worst for at least 10 years.
