ABACO’S ASTOUNDING UNDERGROUND CAVES (1)

ABACO’S ASTOUNDING UNDERGROUND CAVES (1)

Hitoshi Miho is a diver and photographer who takes amazing photographs of the underground caves he explores. These include some of the cave systems on Abaco, where he has recently accompanied renowned Abaco diver Brian Kakuk of the Bahamas Caves Research Foundation. In due course I hope to produce a page dedicated to the Caves and Blue Holes of Abaco including maps but that’s a project in the mind for now. Meantime, with Hitoshi’s kind permission, here are a few preliminary examples of his fabulous work that showcases the wondrous crystal palaces that lie deep beneath Abaco.

    • Quite agree. I hadn’t thought of it in abstract terms – good point. I would love (in theory) to be able to dive the caves; but seeing first-class photos is the next best thing! RH

    • Yes indeed – and there will be more, Dina! Luckily, I don’t have to take the pics – I’d love to dive the caves but my swimming is pathetic. It can be quite risky if you don’t know exactly what you are doing. Luckily, Hitoshi is an expert diver and photographer so I don’t need to… RH

    • So great, aren’t they? There’ll be some more from time to time. One cave system is about 8 miles long under the island. New caves are still being discovered, and also prehistoric remains. So, more soon, Jet! RH
